Federal challenge to presidential primary

Well, been a couple of days … time to break out the brass knuckles again.  A lawsuit has been filed in federal court challenging Michigan’s presidential primary.  Here’s the document.

The gist, as I understand it, is that the plaintiff is a member of the Democratic Party and her right to participate in the primary has been abridged because her preferred candidate has been barred by national party rules from participating in Michigan’s primary.  Thus, she has been disenfranchised.

Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to read it a little later, but by the time I do that, I imagine that blood will have already been spilled.

Until then … have at it!

Update! … I should probably point out that the primary has many enemies, and this lawsuit was filed by Democratic Party activists and not Mark Grebner, Hugh McDiarmid, or Berl Schwartz.

    The Implementation Challenge
is before the MDP and DNC as well.
I’m swamped with grading, but will have something on that by Thursday.

Grebner’s NOT involved in this one.
The premise seems reasonable, but this is NOT part of my challenge. In fact, it looks as if they drew it to stay clear of my line of argument, so as not to accidentally block another suit from going forward.
Conspiracy theorists please note: as far as I know, I don’t even know the folks who filed this. They didn’t consult me. But godspeed.

Also, I think Bill McMaster may be lurking about somewhere – again, not connected with me.

        Who’s Martha?
Does anyone know who Martha Hayes is? Is it rude of me to ask?

Martha was one of the 15 or more petitioners on the
Implementation challenge that went to both the MDP and the DNC, and was apparently ignored. All the petitioners are members in good standing of the MDP, and all support candidates who are not on the 1/15/07 primary ballot.

One of 18 assembled in 96 hours
from the Upper and Lower Peninsula, from the east and west sides of the state. The 18 include supporters of Richardson, Obama and Edwards. All done on the web, the new tool of democracy.

I don’t know who Martha Hayes is – and I know about EVERYBODY.
Seriously, the only “Martha Hayes” who is registered to vote in Kent County is a different person. I suspect the plaintiff is registered under a different name, or possibly has just registered after moving. Middle name? Re-married?
Anyway, I regret to report that I don’t know anything about her. Can somebody illuminate, by providing either a middle intitial, a year of birth, or an address?

You made her name public. No one is giving an address, a phone, an email or anything else. Lighten up.

I tend to be protective of my clients
and did not consider my request to be rude or unusual. I am aware of at least one person on this blog who appears to have no sense of boundaries on these issues (and I am not referring to you).
Eric B. hit it on the head, IMO.

            Very true…
It’s a good thing she’s not a little kid looking for medicine, otherwise Michelle Malkin would be searching through her parents’ garbage for evidence that the family is living on more than Ramen noodles mixed with peanut butter.

            Ratings Refresher
Let me refresh everyone’s memory about how to use the ratings system here at MichLib. Again.

A “4” is used when you find a comment excellent, relevant and/or timely. Sometimes, front pagers and other respected members of the MichLib community use this rating to “uprate” a comment.

A “1” is used when you find a comment unproductive, irrelevant or flat out wrong. The best way to deal with someone who makes such comments is to Reply and create a dialogue.

A “0” is used sparingly, to denote the most horrendous of comments, the troll. By troll rating someone, you are saying that you find that person’s comment(s) to be offensive and/or libelous. This rating is NOT used to indicate your disagreement with the position of the person making the comment.

In short, do not troll rate someone because you disagree with them. That kind of behavior makes the person doing so look like a troll themselves. Again.

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

            Simply put,
it means that you can disagree with the substance of a comment without resorting to rude comments about the person who posted it.

            You are correct.
I found her, properly registered, and looking exactly the way a “Democratic activist” should look.
The problem was that she apparently filed a change-of-address with the USPS recently, and for some reason the move-to address was “invalid”, either because she filled out the form wrong, or because the USPS made a data entry error. The result looks as if she moved and left no forwarding address, so I dropped her from my file.

In any event, my apologies. She’s a real person, with a real voting history, and every evidence of being “a real Democrat”.
